Title
Chapter 7: Multi-Channel Sound Acquisition Using a Multi-Wave Sound Field Model
Abstract
This chapter presents the multi-channel filters that are computed using instantaneous information on the underlying parametric sound field model, such as the instantaneous direction of arrival (DOA) or second-order statistics (SOS) of the direct sounds and diffuse sound. It explains how the parametric description of the spatial sound can be employed to realize the desired flexibility with respect to different audio applications. The chapter explains the parametric sound fieldmodel and introduces the corresponding microphone signals. It introduces the multi-channel filters for the extraction of the direct sounds and diffuse sound. The chapter discusses the estimation of the parametric information, which is required to compute the filters. It presents an example application of the approaches presented, namely the application to spatial sound reproduction. The chapter provides a brief overview of relevant state-of-the-art (SOA) approaches.
