Title
Experimental study of plate waves in isotropic and anisotropic materials for structural health monitoring
Abstract
Efficient structural health monitoring using Lamb waves requires a clear understanding of the wave phenomena involved. In this paper wave phenomena are studied by a non-contact detection technique using a modified Laser vibrometer. Collected data are stored in a computer and animated after the measurement. Having already studied the generation and defect interaction of elastic waves in isotropic plates this paper deals with waves in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) as example of an anisotropic material of increasing practical importance. Effects due to acoustic anisotropy and dispersion were found. The interaction of different wave modes with impact flaws is visualized.
