Title

Noble-Metal-Free Electrocatalysts for Water Splitting - Metal Chalcogenides

Abstract
In this chapter, key achievements in the usage of different types of metal chalcogenides containing sulfur, selenium, and tellurium are comprehensively summarized as efficient catalysts for water splitting. The main part will be dedicated to layered transition-metal chalcogenides, especially those based on MoS2 as the predominant material. The impact of other transition metals and the higher homologues selenium and tellurium in transition-metal dichalcogenides are then discussed. Moving on, we take a close look at non-layered transition-metal disulfides and finally conclude with metal-rich materials that serve as bio-inspired electrocatalysts in bulk form.
