Title

Trials of a Noise-Modulated Radar Demonstrator - First Results in a Marine Environment

Abstract
This paper describes the initial results of trials with a noise radar demonstrator which has a noise-limited sensitivity and antenna configuration similar to a small conventional marine radar. The ability to obtain a plan position indicator (PPI) display, such as is needed for navigation is shown. The importance of being able to control the dynamic range is highlighted. In this respect, the trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of BLASA tailored waveforms in order to improve the useful dynamic range of the radar. The importance of being able to handle the effects of interference due to pulse radars operating in the same band is also illustrated.
