Interaction and visualization of 3D city models for location-based services

We will take a closer look at some research projects leading to prototypes in the area of geospatial AR and location-aware systems. Within the ARCHEOGUIDE project, an outdoor AR cultural heritage on-site guide was developed. The GEIST project combined outdoor AR with digital storytelling in 17th century Heidelberg, Germany. To our knowledge, the first 3D maps for the mobiles, running on Nokia communicator, were developed in the Tellmaris project. Finally, the LoVEUS project creating multimedia location-based services for a variety of mobile devices. The LoVEUS project will be presented in more detail because it is a perfect system for further research and development in AR user interfaces for location-based services.
