Title

Influence of microstructure on ultrasonic velocity in Nimonic alloy PE16

Abstract
The influence of secondary phases in the microstructure on longitudinal and shear velocities in a high temperature nickel base superalloy, Mimonic alloy PE16 has been studied. Suitable heat treatments have been given to introduce different secondary phases in the microstructure. Velocity measurements have been made using cross-correlation technique. Young's and shear moduli have been computed from the measured velocity and density values. The results suggest that ultrasonic velocity measurements could be used to characterize the microstructure with different secondary phases and to identify under certain conditions, the heat treatment given to the alloy.
