Title

SHS-Synthesis of Nanostructured Boron Microparticles

Abstract
Boron particles are particularly interesting for defence applications, as they can increase the performance of energetic materials due to its high enthalpy of combustion. Boron particles are synthesised by magnesiothermic reduction of boron trioxide in an argon atmosphere. By adding sodium chloride to the initial mixture, the structure and morphology of the synthesized particles can be influenced. XRD and SEM analysis show, that the crystalline portion is reduced with increasing salt content.
