Digital Infrastructures for sustainable and profitable Production
Abstract
To digitalize production within Industry 4.0, "Information and Communication Technology" (ICT) systems are more and more integrated into manufacturing. This includes sensors, data pipelines, cloud-systems, different new communication technologies (Wifi6E, 5G), intelligent algorithms, and highly automated closed-loop architectures. Since digital infrastructures will shape the future of industry, it is important to proactively investigate the impact of digital infrastructures on the manufacturing sector. Therefore, two main questions must be answered:
1. How do digital infrastructures enable profitable and
sustainable production?
2. How can a sustainable digital infrastructure be realized?
In the frame of the ICNAP study 2022 different aspects of "green digital infrastructures" and "green by digital infrastructures" were investigated and discussed. Starting with an overview of current regulations, this report aims to give some initial guidance ideas where and how digital infrastructures can lead to a sustainable production and green world perspective.
