Title

Fatigue analysis of structural bonded joints under variable amplitude loading

Abstract
Fatigue Analysis of Structural Bonded Joints Under Variable Amplitude Loading. For lightweight constructions the joining technology adhesive bonding is steadily gaining in importance. Components benefit from increased stiffness, improved crash performance and the ability to join non-metallic materials like carbon fiber reinforced plastics. This article describes the development of a novel component-like specimen, used for fatigue analyses of structural bonded joints. The fatigue behavior of adhesive bonds under variable amplitude loading is examined using this specimen. Based on those test results emphasis is placed on damage accumulation for a numerical durability analysis. In addition the strain energy release rate is used as an alternative to estimate a load threshold for the occurrence of fatigue failure.
