Der 1958 geborene Autor ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Förder- und Lagerwesen an der Universität Dortmund und geschäftsführender Institutsleiter am Fraunhofer-Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik IML. Er studierte Elektrotechnik an der RWTH Aachen und promovierte an der Universität Witten, Darüber hinaus war Prof. ten Hompel von 1988 bis 2000 geschäftsführender Gesellschafter der GamBit GmbH. Logistik bildet nicht nur das Rückgrat der Wirtschaft, sondern hat Bedeutung für die ganze Gesellschaft! Deshalb ist es an der Zeit, die Welt auch einmal vom Standpunkt der Logistik aus zu betrachten und logistische, effiziente Lösungen für zukünftige Herausforderungen zu suchen.

The author was born in 1958. He holds the chair for materials handling and warehousing at the TU Dortmund University and is managing director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML). He studied electrical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University and obtained a doctorate at the University Witten/ Herdecke. Moreover, Prof. ten Hompel was managing partner of GamBit GmbH from 1988 to 2000. Logistics not only are the backbone of the economy but also bear upon society as a whole! Therefore, it is time, for a change, to look at the world from the viewpoint of logistics and to seek efficient logistical solutions for future challenges.
