Abstract
In this paper, the specification of the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA) will be presented as the most suited, universal agent standard, which can be used and applied successfully on Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) in manufacturing. A first FIPA-based realization of an agent-controlled flexible material flow system is given. This system consists of two MAS, one industrial MAS and a mobile robot MAS.
