Title
Experimental approach to determine the SVOC-uptake of different fabric types
Abstract
Semi-volatile organic substances (SVOC) are generally found in quite low concentrations in indoor air. Nevertheless, they may be of importance to human health and wellbeing, as there are exposure pathways beside inhalation, e.g. food or skin contact to dust or surfaces. Clothing could be of specific relevance here, since it is a porous material with good sorption properties, and it can have close skin contact over an extended period of time. The sorption and desorption of SVOC to and from different fabrictypes under realistic conditions is experimentally difficult and only fragmentary results are currently available. Using a specifically designed test setup, the uptake of several SVOC by different fabric types was studied for an extended period of time.
