Title
Advanced carbon nanotube based coatings for energy efficient heating applications
Abstract
Since the discovery of Carbon Nanotubes (CNT) from Dr. Ijima (1991) lots of investigations have been done to explore their unique mechanical and electrical properties. Eventhoug that the technology seems to be much more complex then expected, nowadays first CNT modified products are about to be commercialized. On of the most urgent potential CNT Applications are novel energy saving and customer friendly heating Elements as well as Lightweight structures. In terms of Heating Elements, CNT showing extreme efficient power consumption as well as high mechanical performance at very low production cost. This qualifies the material for the usage in many fields of Automotive and home appliance applications, like mirror and seat heater as well as heating elements for daily needs like cooking and water preparation. The Second part of this talk will introduce the usage of Metal Matrix Composites with CNT. Technical Alloys showing much higher Hardness as well as improved electrical conductivity and a drastic reduced friction coefficient. This unique properties qualifying these new material class for high performance parts in Automotive, Motor Sports, Sport Goods and many other applications.
