Title

Photodetectors and receivers for 100 GbE applications

Abstract
100 G Ethernet is a forthcoming application to manage the ever. increasing data traffic in optical communications, while improving efficiency compared to the common Open Systems Interconnection seven layer model. Short and long-haul transmission distances are differently affected by fiber impairments, thus simple on-off keying used for short distances is complemented by advanced modulation formats, applied to larger distances. Monolithically integrated InP-based photoreceivers, either comprising pin-diodes with travelling-wave amplifiers for electrical post amplification or 90° hybrids integrated with a pair of balanced detectors forming coherent Quadrature Phase Shift Keying photoreceivers, are both shown for 100 G Ethernet transmission concepts.
