Compact bulk optical 90 degrees hybrid for balanced phase diversity receivers

The authors describe a compact and stable bulk optical 90 degrees hybrid offering advantages as compared to fibre-optic realisations. The excess loss of the pigtailed hybrid is only 2.0 dB. The proper hybrid function has been proved in a self-heterodyne measurement set-up.
