New products made from ultrafine metal powders

Powder metallurgy offers a variety of methods to produce materials, parts and layered structures consisting of<O.1 micron sized crystallites. This paper reviews part of the broad field of nanopowder technology, esp. gas phase methods, giving an overview of production and processing methods for ultrafine powders and particles with emphasis on the processing of metallic nanopowders. New products from such materials can be designed now by the integration of powder production and processing steps and by making use of the high sinter ability and specific particle size related properties. Examples are given for densely consolidated, porous and particulate systems
