Introducing 3D GIS for the mobile community technical aspects in the case of TellMAris

In this paper we discuss some technical aspects of a EC funded project called TellMaris. The task of this project can be condensed to "3D maps on mobile devices". Moreover, these have to be integrated in a distributes system for Location Based Services. In order to achieve this, methods for the storage, transmission, display of 3D data and also for the integration of terrain and man-made structures and other objects have been developed. The actual contents are stored and managed in specialsed databases that can be accessed over internet protocols. On the client side several applications are responsible for the display and the user interaction. We reveal some details of these components ans how they are integrated in TellMaris.
