Title

EN 927 - benefits for the industrial and professional wood coating process

Abstract
A long durability of an exterior wood coating is one of the most important features users have a right to expect. An extremely valuable tool is the new European standard EN 927 for the quality certification of wood coatings, which is progressively introduced and utilised in different European countries. Besides a general classification scheme for wood coatings EN 927 comprises four parts of test methodes and one part of a performance specification. In Germany, Italy and the UK several companies have already certified their products at different testing bodies according to this new European standard. France and Scandinavia are gradually starting to utilise EN 927. More European countries are expected to follow during the next years. This paper will review the benefits that should result from the adoption of the EN 927 standard for the European joinery and wood coating industries, for professioal paint and building contractors, architects and end-consumers.
