Innovative Process and Machine Technologies for High-precision Glass Mirror Substrates

Title Supplement
Presentation held at the Photonics Hub Symposium "Photonics for Space", 18 - 19 March 2025, Aachen
Abstract
In this presentation, we explored an innovative process and machine technologies designed for the production of high-precision glass mirror substrates. Our newly developed process chain demonstrates significant advancements in cost-efficiency and time reduction, achieving low surface form error Peak-to-Valley (PV). Notably, the processing time has been reduced from years to just a few days. The successful implementation of this molding process necessitates an intricate combination of expertise in machine technology, process parameters, and mold development. It is essential to acknowledge the inherent non-linearity of glass during hot forming. Furthermore, the replicative process chain we propose proves to be cost-effective, even for small volume production runs, making it a viable option for modern manufacturing challenges.
