Title
Combination of Organic and Inorganic Semiconductor for Sensing Applications
Abstract
Organic light emitting diodes (OLED) emerged from lab samples to standard light sources for high quality displays. Organic photodiodes (OPD) are not yet well established but are on the leap into commercial products. Here we present two sensor applications using organic emitter as excitation source of a sensing dye and as light source to detect optical changes of a biomarker. The gas sensor uses an OLED on top of a CMOS chip whereas the biosensor utilizes a glass substrate and encapsulation with external control and driving unit for the OLED and OPD. Both sensor applications represent the first steps to integrated organic materials as key functional elements into sensor applications.
