Title

NeuroSensEar: Neuromorphic acoustic sensing for the high-performance hearing aids of tomorrow

Abstract
The NeuroSensEar project aims at developing a neuromor phic auditory system to improve auditory perception for hear ing aid users and thus enhance the acceptance with hearing assistive technologies. The system is based on a bio-inspired MEMS-based sensor, which emulates functionalities of bio logical hearing for efficiency and real-time capability. Fur thermore, machine learning based acoustic scene classifica tion and control shall enable the system to respond to chang ing and unfamiliar acoustic scenes, adapting the sensor sys tem accordingly. Inspiration for the system is drawn from studies of insect hearing and the system will be evaluated us ing speech intelligibility and audio quality models as well as in hearing tests with probands.
