Title
Multi-dimensional prefiltering, sampling rate reduction and interpolation of HDTV signals. I
Abstract
Multidimensional subsampling of a broadband HDTV (high definition television) signal makes it possible to adapt the data rate to a digital channel. Two three-dimensional sampling patterns, fieldquincunx and linequincunx, are used to subsampling the interlaced signal. Multidimensional digital filters are proposed for prefiltering before subsampling and for interpolation of the missing samples in the receiver. Linear and motion adaptive filter structures are described. A structure for detecting motion in the transmitter is explained. Algorithms for interpolating a sequence of progressive frames from subsampled fields are proposed for the receiver. Results from simulating the most important filter algorithms on TV- and HDTV-sequences are shown.
