Title

SmartSenior - intelligent services for senior citizens

Abstract
SmartSenior is the largest Ambient Assisted Living research project in Germany, and is scheduled to run from 2009 to 2012. It aims to develop technologically innovative services that will enable older people to continue living in their own homes for longer, and stay independent for longer. SmartSenior is oriented to customers' needs for safety, health, and independence as well as optimum usability. Appliances and services from Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) and (tele-)medicine are integrated into an overall concept to create a comprehensive, modular solution. Research also focuses on the development of role and business models promising effective exploitation and on general issues such as privacy protection and sustainability of AAL services. Selected aspects and current research results of SmartSenior are presented in this article.
