Title

Localization of lateral phantom sources

Abstract
Localization and localization uncertainty of phantom sources generated by two loudspeakers located laterally and asymmetrically with respect to the observer were investigated. The parameters were level difference, loudspeaker lateral displacement and angular aperture. Based on these results, an arrangement with 6 loudspeakers at +or-30 degrees , +or-90 degrees , and +or-150 degrees re. 0 degrees front was tested in order to achieve an omnidirectional sound stage suitable for a normal discrete quadraphonic system.
