Title
Network resources pre-reservation for multimedia content delivery in heterogeneous wireless networks
Abstract
The rapid progress being made recently in fixed and wireless access technologies that are envisioned to change the way we consume multimedia content show that the evolution of IP-based networks will be largely driven by multimedia service delivery requirements. The recent growth in the demand for IP-based streaming applications has challenged mobile operators on the management of the growth of traffic in their network. The delivery of several multimedia streaming applications composing live or store multimedia content such as public events or broadcast TV are transmitted according to pre-subscription. They occupy a high level of resources for which static congestion estimation mechanisms are not working. This paper introduces a novel solution for resource prediction of multimedia content delivery based on information gathered during the service subscription process in which users interested in certain multimedia service register (subscribe to) with the service provider for multimedia content delivery. This method represents an efficient use of pre-existing information, is easy to deploy and highly cost effective in comparison to traditional monitoring system employing dedicated traffic metering hardware.
