Integrated multifunctional scientific workstation systems within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft -FhG-

The objectives of the scientific workstation systems project (Wissenschaftler Arbeitsplatz WAP) are the rationalization of the repetitive and supporting tasks within the project related work of the FhG-scientists such as - achieving the starting situation and contents of a scientific project (i.e. state of the art), - acquisition and execution of projects with different structures and volumes in due time and costs, considering the available resources, - achieving the project results. The benefits of the introduction of modern information, communication and data processing techniques on the basis of a large amount of workstations can hardly be estimated or measured quantitatively. Advantages are mainly the higher flexiblity, shorter transmitting times and higher quality of results. Individual development and solutions (which in sum are very cost-intensive) shall be avoided with the introduction of the WAP an its functionality. By using these standard tools within the FhG, higher synerge tical effects are aimed. The wide introduction of the WAP in the FhG-institutes is planned for the years 1988 until 1991 after the tests during the pilot phase are finished. (ZV)
