The optimization of waveguide-integrated photodiodes in vertical coupling

The object of this work is to contribute in the improvement of the efficiency of electronic signal processing in photodetectors by achieving the optimal coupling between the waveguides and the photodiodes. The paper discusses available means of efficiency improvement and then describes the structure and characteristics of a component consisting of mono-mode inverted rib waveguides and mesa-photodiodes; the form and dimensions of the structure are given. Test results are presented.
