Title

ROME - a generic process model for interdisciplinary E-learning system design and development

Abstract
Process models for developing diverse systems can be found dated back to the mid 1990. Given the current state of the art in system development in combination with experience in developing e-learning systems, a modernization of existing approaches und an adaptation to the special needs of e-learning system development is required. This has been done by developing the Rostock Model for systematically developing E- learning products and services (ROME). The approach takes standards into account, same as the aspects of team work and supervision of heterogeneous teams. It has a strong background in systems engineering. From the perspective of ROME, the process model is an ideal type description of an interdisciplinary development process. It species a progression of development steps, is divided into phases and contains a role model, a resource collection and an artefact collection. ROME has been tested and applied in several technology enhanced learning projects.
