Grid stability in a 100% renewable electricity supply system

The research project Kombikraftwerk 2 examined whether and how a reliable and stable electricity supply for Germany with 100% renewable energy sources can be realized in the future. To this end, an assessment of the demand and the provision of ancillary services in such a system with a highshare of wind energy was undertaken. Besides presenting an overview of the results of the project, this paper discusses the role of wind energy in the system in particular.
