Novel radar-supported landing aid system for helicopters

To aid helicopter pilots when landing under difficult conditions, the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) and the FGAN Research Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques (FGAN-FHR) are jointly developing a novel, compact 94 GHz radar system. A vertical resolution of 2 cm and a helicopter drift of less than 1 m per minute are measurable up to a height of 30 m. Both research institutes support the defence industry with state-of-the-art, strategic electronic components that are otherwise unavailable.
