Title
Experimental Assessment of Miniature Wave-Energy-Converter Performance: Output Analysis in Simulated Wave Conditions
Abstract
This paper presents an experimental performance assessment of a Miniature Wave Energy Converter (MWEC) in simulated wave conditions. The MWEC is designed to harvest small amounts of energy from ocean waves for a potential application as a Zero-Power-Wakeup mechanism for sensor activation. The study investigates the MWEC's output characteristics under diverse movement conditions, including both harmonic and non-harmonic motions. To achieve this, a methodology for characterising performance in a controlled laboratory environment using a hexapod is implemented. The study provides valuable insights in alternative testing methods of Wave Energy Converters (WEC). Preliminary testing results demonstrate the potential applicability of the MWEC and underscore the need for rigorous testing methodologies in the development and evaluation of WEC.
