Title

Psychoacoustic modeling in sound quality measurements and coding of audio signals

Abstract
Psychoacoustic modeling plays an important role in current speech and audio technology. The most important application of psychoacoustics today is perceptual coding of high quality audio signals. This technology went from research to widespread application (including finished international standards) within less than 10 years. Other applications are in speech coding or in the objective evaluation of signals according to perceptual ("subjective") criteria. This paper presents an overview on these current applications of psychoacoustic modeling and some examples of the models which are used.
