Exposure facilities and aerosol generation and characterization for inhalation experiments

Starting with an introduction to particle deposition in the respiratory tracts of human and animals, it is discussed which criteria have to be met by exposure facilities in order to facilitate reliable administration of aerosol. Methods for the generation and characterization of the required aerosol are introduced and many references are given.
