Title
Throughput and Capacity Analysis of LiFi-Over-Powerline
Abstract
A combination of optical wireless communication (also denoted as LiFi), and powerline communication offers a promising solution for wireless extension of data networks operating in unlicensed optical bands with no interference from radio. This paper reports on a measurement campaign conducted to characterize a LiFi-over-powerline link. The channel frequency response and the corresponding signal-to-noise ratio were measured up to 100 MHz under four various channel conditions, including liFi-only, powerline-only, cascaded PLCLiFi and cascaded power grid and LiFi links. In addition, the Shannon capacity and throughput, using both uniform and adaptive bit-loading, were evaluated to provide a complete linklevel performance assessment. For a power grid combined with 100 cm LiFi link, the results indicate a net data rate of 492Mbit/s after forward error correction decoding with a target bit error rate of 10-2, while the estimated capacity is 785Mbit/ s.
