Abstract
Methanol is an essential chemical enabling circular economy in various industrial sectors. This can be achieved by carbon capture and utilization process systems. Life cycle assessments for methanol production using different carbon capture technologies for industrial and atmospheric CO2 sources were conducted, along with considering the influence of hydrogen supply and electricity mix. The overall results show using industrial CO2 is more beneficial from a climate change mitigation perspective than using atmospheric CO2 .
