Abstract
This paper presents experimental performance evaluation of secure handover between 3G and WLAN. The evaluation is based on trace analysis considering throughput and latency. The realized architecture is a loosely coupled combination of 3G and WLAN using Mobile IP for mobility management. This paper compares the performance of handover with and without security mechanisms. Furthermore, it proposes possible approaches to avoid interruptions arising from handover.
