Title

Fatigue design of structural ceramic parts by the example of automotive intake and exhaust valves

Abstract
Fatigue design of components subjected to cyclic loading requires special testing methods, component related material data and an appropriate safety concept. The following contribution presents a newly developed methodology for the fatigue design and testing of highly loaded ceramic components. This methodology is verified by laboratory and in-service testing of Si3 N4 intake and exhaust valves.
