Overview and brief assessment of other 2D materials. Motivation, chances, barriers and critical reflection for applied research

After the discovery of graphene the investigation of other 2D materials from side of basic research has started. Graphene seems to be only one of several interesting alternative 2D materials. The talk comprises the current available materials in concepts and methods already known for structure, synthesis and characterization. Furthermore a realistic evaluation of opportunities for later applications and applied research for these 2D materials, such as metal oxides, hydroxides and metal-organic frameworks will be given.
