Materials obsolescence management within the materials & processes working group

Materials obsolescence due to safety concerns, legislative restriction or second tier supplier consolidation has become an increasingly significant problem within the space industry. Early identification of modifications, impact evaluation and management have become a major topic within the M&P WG (Materials and Processes Working Group). This script presents information on materials that have been identified as subject to some form of obsolescence and the types of data which have been evaluated to identify a potential risk to space activities. Specific examples of materials where changes are known to have occurred will be presented along with the investigations utilised to quantify if the modification will impact upon a materials performance in a space application.
