Title

A Wizard-of-Oz vehicle to investigate human interaction with AI-driven automated cars

Paper presented at DSC 2021 Europe VR, Driving Simulation Conference Europe VR, Munich, September 14-17, 2021
Abstract
The Wizard-of-Oz (WoZ) paradigm is an established method in human factors research to investigate the interaction between human and new technology. In particular for automated cars this method is a useful and safe technique to collect data, simulate and investigate how autonomous, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven systems should be designed for optimal human-machine interaction. We present Fraunhofer's WoZ research vehicle, describe its hardware and software specifications and its potential investigation areas for human factors and AI research. We also discuss obtainable results and which measures are taken to address concerns related to the research paradigm.
