Demonstration of a Real-Time 100G Ethernet Space Division Multiplexing PON Using a Weakly Coupled Multicore Fiber

Abstract
We demonstrate a real-time 100G Ethernet transmission over space division multiplexing - passive optical network using a weakly coupled seven-core fiber in a point-to-multipoint layout. The application of this demonstration is targeting optical access networks, e.g., 5G/6G fronthaul. We perform RFC 2544 benchmarking and error-free 100G transmission to 25G optical network units using commercial transceivers and no additional digital signal processing.
