Use of intelligent agents in home entertainment

The transition from analog to digital video is about to bring the expected convergence of television, computer and communication, however a suitable platform for deliv-ery of multimedia interactive services has not emerged yet. In this paper the approach of the EMBASSI project in the field of easy content access and retrieval for home usage is introduced. EMBASSI is a project involving more than twenty big German companies . Its goal is not to focus on the unlimited possibilities of this technology, but rather on the individual prerequisites of the human in contact with it. Therefore, the user interfaces of a big class of appliances and systems, including shopping and e-commerce, need to be easily and efficiently accessible for everyone.
