Abstract
The great success of stereoscopic cinema raises the question how the cinematic experience can be further enhanced. An accepted idea is to bring a more immersive experience to the viewer by placing him in the middle of the action. This can be achieved by breaking away from planar screens and more precisely to use dome shaped screens to completely surround the viewer. Adding stereoscopy to surrounding displays leads to the vision of tomorrow's cinema: Interactive 3D-viewing. This paper will present methods to setup arbitrary shaped displays using multiple projectors. There are several technical challenges to overcome when combining multiple projectors to display one seamless image. We will cover the life cycle from planning an installation over calibrating the projectors to realigning the system after maintenance. Further the paper will discuss different methods to bring content to immersive cinema and discuss which information is relevant to design the binocular disparity for stereoscopic full dome media.
