Performance of European triple-junction solar cells for deep space missions

In this paper we discuss the behaviour of European triple-junction solar cells under conditions which simulate the environment of a mission to the Jupiter system. The cells show both a typical characteristic degradation behaviour but also the presence of a deleterious 'flat-spot' effect in some cells, as observed elsewhere. We discuss the understanding of this phenomenon and ways to mitigate its impact.
