Title
Towards Infrastructure-assisted WiFi Rate Adaptation for Converged Networks with Morpheus
Abstract
As IEEE and 3GPP actively work towards exploiting multiple links and heterogeneous radio access technologies, new optimization opportunities arise to meet diverse user requirements. In this context, we explore the dynamic role of WiFi rate adaptation schemes and station-driven optimizations. We present a novel framework, Morpheus, which aims to provide a flexible approach to resource management in WiFi and facilitates joint optimization with cellular networks. We extend this to MAC-layer rate adaptation using a prototype API with per-station capabilities for Linux-based OpenWrt devices. Our preliminary findings show that station-based configurability is already present in the Minstrel-HT algorithm. As a proof of concept, we show the potential of frequency parameter tuning within the algorithm.
