Handling and alignment of multidimensional image data with MISB - the multiple image stack browsing suite

In this paper we describe the Multiple Image Stack Browsing Suite" (MISB), a software system for handling very large, multidimensional image data, especially from scientific and technical applications. We present some of the distinguished properties of this software such as the extensibility by using plug-in mechanisms. In detail we discuss some results of searching optimized pixel based strategies for aligning several fluorescence images acquired by confocal laser scanning microscopes.
