Title
In-Car Intermodal Travel Assistance Using Mobility Service Platforms
Abstract
Mobility service platforms (MSPs) offer information, routing and booking of intermodal and personalized itineraries. Besides traditional travel information, MSPs can also provide sophisticated travel assistance actively supporting users during their itinerary and rerouting them in case of service disruptions. MSPs are usually accessed through the travelers smartphone, which unfortunately cannot be operated while driving due to safety regulations. As a consequence, users are disconnected while using their private or a rented/shared vehicle. In this work, we describe how to enable travelers' access to MSPs using the vehicle information system to allow a seamless travel assistance. In addition, the integration of the vehicle into the MSP also allows additional services, e.g., a personalized driving experience by synchronizing the users preferences between different vehicles. Our approach extends existing system architectures and communication protocols based on use cases for an intermodal journey. We prove the technical feasibility of our concept by demonstrating a working prototype implementation.
