Title

Theoretical foundations of the model transformation

Abstract
Mechanics models require an idea of vectorial space; electrical circuit descriptions do not. This difference causes problems for modelling and simulation of electromechanical systems - no matter whether in micro- or macroscale. Based on the mapping of mechanical equations into electrical networks the model transformation approach presented by Pelz et. al. (1994, 1995) offers a general solution for these difficulties in a rather intuitive manner. We give the theoretical foundations for this by paving the way from Lagrangian mechanics to the modified nodal analysis which is used in virtually every circuit simulator. The presented equivalences between electronics and mechanics provide a more general and consistent basis than the widely used physical analogies.
