Title

A charging unit based on micro-PEM-fuel cells in LTCC technology

Other Title
Eine Ladeeinheit, basierend auf Mikro-PEM-Brennstoffzellen in LTCC-Technologie
Abstract
The LTCC (Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) technology offers the possibility to intergrate passive and active components for fluidic and electronic systems on one 3D substrate carrier. Because of the excellent electrical characteristics and the very good mechanical workability of the LTCC technology it is possible to arrange highly integrated systems (e.g. sensors, mixing structures, cavities). Therefore, LTCC technology provides all the prerequisites to build a micro fuel cell system with integrated electronics to transform cell voltage and to realize a charging circuit for a storage battery. This paper deals with the development, the manufacturing and the characterization of a mobile charging unit based on a self breathing proton exchange membrane fuel cell for an electronic consumer with the help of LTCC technology. It describes the construction and fabrication of the main fuel cell components: the gas flow fields, the current collectors and the electrical circuit.
