Title

Smart sensor modules for operator assistance of teleoperated mobile robots

Other Title
Intelligente Sensoren für die Bedienerunterstützung fernbedienter mobiler Roboter
Abstract
The application of teleguided robots for mine detection and removal requires experienced and well trained operators. Nevertheless, outdoor navigation with obstacle avoidance and an exact positioning of the robot remains difficult. The application of sensors for position and environment perception allow the implementation of sensor guided semi-autonomous functions assisting the operator during the mission. The development of robot systems for this high tech and low volume market is only affordable if the manufacturer can operate with low cost but high performance standard components which simplify the teleoperation of the robot. To meet these contradictionary goals, a new approach called smart sensors, has been developed.
